SADC ESSAY WRITING COMPETITION FOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS, 2018

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) Secretariat has organized the SADC students essay writing competition for year 2018. The Essay writing competition is intended to broaden knowledge of the secondary school going population on SADC activities. The competition is open to form 1 to 6 students. The students are required to begin researching on the topic prior to writing and submitting to their Heads of School.

 The 37th summit of Heads of State and Governments deliberated that, the topic for year 2018 is “Partnering with the private sector in developing Industries and Regional Value Chains”.

The topic for the essay competition is “Discuss how partnership with private sector can promote industrial growth and foster development of value chains in key priority sectors (such as agriculture, mining, health etc) among SADC member states”.

 The set of questions below are meant to guide students when responding to the question above. Thus, on answering the above question, student should answer all the questions listed below:

1.         Discuss in-depth, what you understand about industrial growth and value chains and how SADC Member States could increase private sector involvement in industrial growth and value chains. (20 Points)

2.         Discuss and fully explain the general forms of value added services which are undertaken in the SADC region. (15 Points)

3.         Collaboration between governments and the private sectors is said to be key in developing economies, explain your understanding of the term private sector engagement and how it is key in developing industrial growth and value chains and give at least four (4) examples of major business collaborative efforts that has made huge impact in development region economy. (20 Points)

4.         For SADC Region to achieve any meaningful industrialization in form of industrial growth and improvement in value chains, discuss the areas/ types of value added services which are likely to produce meaningful; results in the present context. (15 Points)

5.         Presently how do SADC member states engage the private sector in the development of their industries, and in your opinion, how can these relationships be strengthened. (15 Points)

6.         What interventions and/or measures should regional governments embark on in order for private sector be key drivers of national economies. (15 Points)



Heads of schools are supposed to ensure that students adhere to the following guidelines:

i.          The essay should not be longer than 1,500 words and not shorter than 1,000 words;

ii.         Where students have access to computers, they are advised to type their essays and submit both the soft and hard copies;

iii.       Students who will type their essays will have to sign and initial the hard copies to make sure that they have not been altered;

iv.       The essay shall be written in English language;

v.         The front page or cover page will display the name, sex, class, school address and stamp, Headmistress/Headmaster’s email address, signature and phone no, region, country;

vi.       The title of the essay should be written on the cover page (students should not paraphrase the title);

vii.      Definition of Key concepts and a brief Historical/Background of SADC should be written in the introductory paragraph;

viii.     All reference material must be written in the last page; and

ix.        The handwritten essays will be written on one side of the A4 paper with double margin of two centimeters.

 Students are expected to begin writing immediately and submit their essays to their head of schools. The Head of School will then be expected to constitute a marking panel which will choose best essays of the school. The panel should go through the essays (Please do not mark the essays) and choose three essays to be submitted to The Permanent Secretary; Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, P.O. Box 10, Block 10, College of Humanities Dodoma not later than 15th April 2018. The national adjudication will take place from 02nd to 15th May 2018 in order to get three entries which will be submitted to the SADC Secretariat in Botswana.

Ndalichako: sijaridhishwa na kasi ya ujenzi Kigoma Sekondari, TBA wachukuliwa hatua

Waziri wa Elimu, Sayansi na Teknolojia Profesa Joyce Ndalichako amesema hajaridhishwa na kasi ya ujenzi wa shule ya Sekondari Kigoma ilihali wakala wa Majengo wanaojenga shule hiyo walishapatiwa fedha  za awali kwa ajili ya ujenzi wa shule hiyo kiasI cha asilimia 30 na kuwa malipo ya fedha hizo yalishafanyika tangu mwezi machi mwaka Jana.
Waziri Ndalichako amesema shule ya sekondari Kigoma ni miongoni mwa Shule Kongwe na tayari Serikali imekwishatoa fedha za kutosha ambapo  ukarabati wa shule ulitarajiwa kukamilika mapema Mwezi Septemba, 2017  ili shule zitakapofunguliwa Januari  8, 2018 ukarabati uwe umekamilika na wanafunzi waweze kutumia miundombinu hiyo.
Waziri Ndalichako ametoa kauli hiyo akiwa mkoani Kigoma kwenye ziara ya kikazi ya kukagua ujenzi na ukarabati wa shule mbalimbali unaotekelezwa na Wizara yake kupitia Programu maalumu ya Lipa kulingana na matokeo.
Kufuatia kusuasusa kwa ukarabati wa shule hiyo ya sekondari Kigoma, Mkuu wa mkoa wa kigoma Brigadia Jenerali mstaafu Emmanuel Magaga  ameamuru kukamatwa na kuwekwa ndani kwa meneja wa Wakala wa majengo wa TBA wa mkoa wa Kigoma Mgala Mashaka  ili uchunguzi ufanyike dhidi yake kutokana na kutuhumiwa kujihusisha na miradi binafsi, pamoja na kuhusishwa na vitendo vya rushwa.
Akiwa mkoani Kigoma Waziri Ndalichako pia alikagua vifaa vya maabara ambavyo tayari vimepokelewa kwenye shule mbalimbali za sekondari.

Waziri Ndalichako afungua vyumba vya madarasa Simiyu

Waziri wa Elimu, Sayansi na Teknolojia,  Profesa Joyce Ndalichako amesema serikali itaendelea kuboresha miundombinu ya kujifunzia na ile ya kufundishia lengo likiwa ni kuhakikisha Elimu bora inatolewa.

Waziri Ndalichako ameyasema hayo wakati akifungua vyumba viwili vya madarasa vilivyojengwa kupitia Mradi wa Lipa Kulingana na Matokeo (P4R)  katika Shule ya Msingi Mahembe iliyopo Kijiji cha Mahembe kata ya Sawida mkoani Simiyu

Kupitia ziara hiyo  Profesa Ndalichako pia alizungumza na wananchi wa Kijiji cha Habiya kilichopo  Wilaya ya Itilima na kuwataka wazazi kuhakikisha watoto wote waliofika umri wa kwenda shule wanakwenda.

Kwa upande wake Mbunge wa Jimbo la Itilima, Mkoani Simiyu Njalu Silanga amepongeza jitihada zinazofanywa na Serikali za kuboresha miundombinu huku akiwataka wananchi wa Jimbo lake kuitunza miundombinu hiyo kwa faida ya kijiji  hicho.

Wizara ya Elimu yaendeleza ujenzi wa Sekondari ya kumbukumbu ya Sokoine

Wizari ya Elimu, Sayansi na Teknolojia imetoa kiasi cha shilingi bilioni 1.7 kwa ajili ya kuendeleza  ujenzi wa shule ya sekondari ya kumbukumbu ya hayati Edward Moringe Sokoine inayonengwa Wilayani Mvomero mkoani Morogoro.

Akizungumza leo wakati alipofanya ziara ya kukagua miradi inayotekelezwa na Wizara hiyo katika mkoa wa Morogoro Waziri Ndalichako amepongeza juhudi zinazofanywa na Halmashauri ya Mvomero kwa kuhakikisha inasimamia fedha zinazotolewa na Serikali kuwa zinatumika kama zilivyokusudiwa.

"Nawapongeza kwa kazi nzuri, ni jambo jema la kumuenzi hayati  Edward Moringe Sokoine kwa kuhakikisha tumekamilisha ujenzi huo ili wanafunzi waweze kuanza masomo kama inavyotarajiwa, huu ni mfano basi ni vyema na halmashauri nyingine ziige hiki ambacho Mvomero imefanya"alisema Waziri Ndalichako.

Profesa Ndalichako amesema uwepo wa shule hiyo ni kumbukumbu na pia ni kielelezo kuwa Hayati Sokoine amelitumikia Taifa hili kwa Uadilifu.

Katika ziara hiyo Waziri ametembelea kituo cha Maendeleo DAKAWA kwa lengo la kujionea hali ya Miundombinu katika shule ya Sekondari Dakawa, Kituo cha Ufundi Stadi VETA na Chuo cha Ualimu.

Pia  ametembelea Chuo cha Ufundi Stadi  VETA kilichopo Kihonda na kile kilichopo Morogoro mjini ambapo ameiagiza BODI ya  VETA kuangalia upya sifa za wakuu wa vyuo waliopo hivi sasa ili kuleta tija na ufanisi katika kazi kwani  waliopo hivi sasa hawakidhi vigezo pia hawaendani na kasi ya serikali ya awamu ya Tano.

Waziri Ndalichako aongoza Harambee ya kuchangia ujenzi wa mabweni shule ya Sekondari Sovi

Zaidi ya shilingi milioni Mia moja zimepatikana wakati wa Harambee ya Ujenzi wa mabweni ya  wasichana katika shule ya sekondari Sovi iliyopo  kata ya Mtwango Mkoani Njombe.

fedha hizo zimepatikana wakati wa  harambee iliyoongozwa na Waziri wa Elimu, Sayasni na Teknolojia Profesa Joyce Ndalichako  mwishoni mwa wiki  mkoani Njombe ambapo amewataka  vijana kuwa wazalendo, pamoja na kuhakikisha wanasoma kwa bidii kwa maslahi ya Taifa.

Waziri Ndalichako pia  amewasihi vijana kuhakikisha wanaipenda nchi yao pamoja na kujiepusha na makundi ambayo hayana tija kama vile utumiaji wa dawa za kulevya, kujiingiza kwenye makundi ya uhalifu, na utumiaji wa pombe vitendo ambavyo havina faida kwa maisha yao ya sasa na ya baadae.

Waziri Ndalichako amesema kuwepo kwa mabweni kutawapunguzia wanafunzi kutembea umbali mrefu, kuwaepusha na vishawishi vya barabarani wakati wa kwenda na kurudi shuleni  na hivyo watatumia muda wao mwingi kwenye kusoma.

Ndalichako amesema kazi ya Serikali ni kuboresha miundombinu, na kuhakikisha mahitaji muhimu ya wanafunzi yanapatikana shuleni hivyo wanafunzi nao lazima watimize wajibu wao kwa kuhakikisha wanasoma na kufaulu katika mitihani yao.

Kwa upande wake Mkuu wa mkoa wa Njombe, Christopher Ole Sendeka amesema mkoa wake unatambua jitihada zinazofanywa na Serikali ya awamu ya Tano katika kutatua changamoto mbalimbali katika sekta ya Elimu.


Amesema katika mkoa wake kati ya Shule Kumi za sekondari za umma shule Tisa zina mabweni lengo likiwa ni kuondoa changamoto ya upatikanaji wa mimba kwa wanafunzi, pamoja na kuongeza kiwango cha ufaulu kwa wanafunzi wanaomaliza kidato cha Nne.

Ole Nasha aitaka Taasisi ya Elimu ya Watu Wazima kuandaa Wataalamu katika fani za ufundishaji na ujifunzaji

Naibu Waziri wa Elimu, Sayansi na Teknolojia Wiliam Ole Nasha ameiagiza Taasisi ya Elimu ya Watu Wazima kurejea jukumu lake la msingi la kuwaandaa wataalamu katika fani za Elimu ya Watu Wazima na Maendeleo ya Jamii.
Naibu Waziri ametoa agizo hilo katika mahafali ya 53 ya Taasisi ya Elimu ya Watu Wazima yaliyofanyika katika viwanja vya Taasisi hiyo jijini Dar es Salaam, ambapo amesema kwa kufanya hivyo kutasaidia kutatua  changamoto za ufundishaji na ujifunzaji wa stadi za Kusoma, Kuandika na Kuhesaba  (KKK) kwa vijana na watu wazima.

Naibu Waziri Ole Nasha amesema Wizara tayari ilishatoa Mwongozo wa shule za Msingi na Sekondari  kutumika kama vituo vya kutolea Elimu ya Watu Wazima na Elimu Nje ya Mfumo rasmi, wakati utaratibu wa kuvitumia Vyuo vya Maendeleo ya Wananchi FDC ukiwa unaendelea.

Mheshimiwa Ole Nasha amesema serikali kwa kushirikiana na wadau imeendelea kutekeleza Mipango mbalimbali ambayo inawawezesha vijana na watu wazima waliokosa fursa katika Mfumo Rasmi wa Elimu kujiendeleza kielimu na kumudu changamoto za maisha.

Naibu Waziri Ole Nasha amewataka wahitimu kwenda kufanya kazi kwa weledi katika vituo watakavyopangiwa ili kusaidia juhudi za Serikali za kupambana na adui ujinga.
Kwa upande wake Mkurugenzi wa Taasisi hiyo Dkt. Fidelice Mafumiko amesema Taasisi i naendelea kuongeza fursa zaidi katika utoaji Elimu kwa kupitia programu za mafunzo kwa kutumia njia ya ujifunzaji huria na masafa kwa ngazi ya Stashahada.


Dtk. Mafumiko amasema hadi sasa Taasisi imeongeza vituo  vya mafunzo vya Elimu ya Watu Wazima  kutoka vituo 13 hadi kufikia 21 katika mikoa13.
